Database test data management

Operational databases are where most test data problems start: the tables that hold customers, accounts, policies and orders are connected by keys, and a test environment is only useful when those connections survive.

A realistic test database is small enough to refresh often, masked well enough to be safe in lower environments, and complete enough that every foreign key still resolves.

What test data management needs here

  • Catalog discovery of schemas, tables, columns, primary keys and foreign keys, so relationships are known before anything is copied.
  • Least-privilege, read-only access that can be proven from the database itself rather than assumed.
  • Entity-aware subsetting that starts from a customer or account and follows keys to every row that belongs to it.
  • Deterministic masking of identifiers, so the same customer gets the same pseudonym in every table and every database.

How DataNivra approaches it

  • Discovery reads the catalog and reports structure, keys and aggregate profiles — never row values.
  • Before reading, the connector proves the credential cannot write, where the engine exposes enough privilege information to do so, and fails closed otherwise.
  • The subsetter walks declared relationships with bounded depth, and certification refuses a dataset with orphaned rows.
  • Whatever the system, row-level work happens in the DataNivra agent inside your network: only metadata, aggregates and evidence reach DataNivra Cloud.

Databases: connector status (11)

7 of these connectors can be used today (available or in preview); the others are shown with their honest status. Statuses are derived from recorded conformance evidence.

Available now

PostgreSQL

Shipped in the standard agent and backed by recorded conformance evidence.

Built-in connector (psycopg 3): catalog discovery, row-count estimates, column profiles, foreign-key relationships and streaming Arrow reads for subsetting.

Generic SQL (SQLAlchemy)

Shipped in the standard agent and backed by recorded conformance evidence.

Built-in connector for a SQLAlchemy URL: metadata, counts, profiles and streaming reads, with a statement guard that blocks anything other than SELECT/WITH/SHOW/EXPLAIN.

Available now

Microsoft SQL Server

Shipped in the standard agent and backed by recorded conformance evidence.

Dedicated SQL Server connector (pure-Python TDS driver): catalog discovery, primary and foreign keys, row estimates from sys.partitions, aggregate profiles and bounded streaming reads into the local engine, over verified TLS by default.

Available now

Oracle Database

Shipped in the standard agent and backed by recorded conformance evidence.

Dedicated Oracle connector (python-oracledb thin mode, no Oracle Client needed): schema discovery, primary and foreign keys, optimizer row estimates, aggregate profiles and bounded streaming reads inside read-only transactions.

Available now

MySQL

Shipped in the standard agent and backed by recorded conformance evidence.

Dedicated MySQL connector (PyMySQL): information_schema discovery, primary and foreign keys, row estimates, aggregate profiles and unbuffered streaming reads.

Available now — details about MySQL

Available now

MariaDB

Shipped in the standard agent and backed by recorded conformance evidence.

MariaDB through the MySQL connector, with its own compatibility record: MariaDB is tested separately and never assumed compatible because a MySQL driver connects.
